50 States Quarters Program 1999-2008
Idaho is the 43rd coin released in the 50 State Quarters Program and the third quarter released in 2007. Idaho, who was admitted into the Union on July 3rd 1890, themed the coin, Esto Perpetua. It highlights an image of the Peregrine Falcon imposing its presence above an outline of the state of Idaho. Launched in 1999, the United States Mint s 50 State Quarters Program was a 10-year initiative that honored each of the nation s states in the order that they ratified the Constitution or were admitted into the Union. Each quarter was produced for about 10 weeks and will never be produced again. State designs are displayed on the reverse (tails) of the quarters, while the obverse design displays the familiar image of George Washington. But, to accommodate state designs on the reverse, the words United States of America, Quarter Dollar, Liberty, and In God We Trust all appear on the obverse. Idaho is a northwestern U.S. state known for mountainous landscapes, and vast swaths of protected wilderness and outdoor recreation areas. The capital, Boise, is set in the Rocky Mountain foothills and is bisected by the Boise River, which is popular for rafting and fishing. The city s riverfront Julia Davis Park is a downtown green space containing a rose garden, museums and a zoo.
