A genuine United States Indian Head Cent is the focal point of this silver tone heart necklace. The over 100 year old coin was minted from 1859-1909 and is secured in a silver tone bezel in the middle of the delicately weaved vintage heart. The Indian Head Penny lends a breadth of history to the fashionable, vintage style necklace that also includes eight howlite turquoise beads. The coin pendant hangs from a 24 inch rope style chain with a 3 inch extender and a lobster claw clasp. Matte and antiqued silver tone finishes enhance the steel chain and heart. The Indian Head Cent is composed of copper and was designed by James B. Longacre. Legend has it, his daughter Sarah was the inspiration modeling a headdress given to the White House from a chief. No one knows if Sarah was the model as James B. Longacre once stated Venus, a Greek statue, was his inspiration for the design. The reverse was first designed to resemble laurel and then was changed to oak. The Indian Head penny was only minted in Philadelphia (which bears no mint mark) until production began at the San Francisco Mint in 1908. Some believe turquoise howlite improves memory and concentration. A Certificate of Authenticity is included.
