Northwest Africa 13674 (NWA 13674)
(Northwest Africa)
Purchased: 2018
Classification: Ordinary chondrite (H7)
History: Purchased by Craig Zlimen in 2018 from a Moroccan dealer.
Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and P. Carpenter, WUSL) Triple grain junction texture among constituent phases is predominant, but there are also sparse pyroxene oikocrysts containing olivine chadacrysts. No remnant chondrules are present. Grain size is about 200 m. Accessory phases include abundant altered kamacite, taenite, troilite, low-Ti chromite and merrillite. Secondary iron hydroxides are present on grain boundaries.
Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa 18.6 0.1, range Fa 18.5-18.7, N = 5), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs 16.4 0.1Wo 3.8 0.6, range Fs 16.4-16.5Wo 3.4-4.7, N = 4), augite (Fs 7.6 0.6Wo 42.6 1.1, range Fs 7.1-8.2Wo 43.5-41.4, N = 2), plagioclase (An 9.9Or 7.9; An 25.3Or 2.8; N = 2).
Classification: Ordinary chondrite (H7).
Specimens: 21.8 g including one polished thin section at UWB; remainder with Mr. C. Zlimen.
